Canadian Blood Services needs 38,000 donors to give blood between now and January 4.
The appointments must be filled over the holiday period to keep national inventory levels up.
Spokesperson Brandy Peters, says they want donating blood to be top-of-mind for people as they get ready for Christmas.
“This is a busy time of year especially the last two weeks of December. We know every year we need 100,000 new donors every year just to keep up with demand. We are looking for new and returning donors to keep making appointments,” Peters said.
Peters says they want people to keep their appointments because they are harder to fill during this time of year.
“If someone is making an appointment, please honour it. If you are unable to keep it, cancel it or find someone to take your place or rebook into January or February,” Peters said.
Peters notes CBS has made safety its highest priority during the pandemic with enhanced measures in all of their donor centres.
The closest donation centre to us is in Winnipeg.
