You can now book an appointment for a COVID vaccine if you are between the ages of 5 and 11.
Kids must be turning five years old by the end of the year to be eligible.
The Northwestern Health Unit is expecting to receive its share of doses today or tomorrow and hopes to begin clinics Saturday or Monday.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says parents and guardians consent is required for this age group.
“It would only be in very extreme or very exceptional circumstance that this would not occur. Teachers or school staff can not provide consent for students at this time.”
Dr. Young Hoon says they won’t be hosting school-based clinics at this time.
She notes, “Children should not receive a different vaccine at least 14 days before or after getting their COVID-19 vaccine. This includes the influenza vaccine. Parents who have got their child vaccinated for influenza should book a COVID vaccine appointment for their child at least 14 days after that influenza shot.”

Meantime, the health unit reports this will be the last week of community flu clinics.
After this week, you will have to book an appointment at a health care provider or pharmacy.
