The Central Canada Junior A Hockey Championship is returning to Northwestern Ontario.
Red Lake has been selected to host the 2022 Dudley-Hewitt Cup.
The event is May 10-14 at the Cochenour Arena.
Miners President Jason Vinet says they are grateful and excited to host and looking forward to a great week of hockey and showcasing the Red lake area in all its beauty.
Vinet says organizers are already hard at work and details on tickets and other information will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
Mark Vermette is the Chief Administrative Officer in Red Lake and says the municipal government is fully on board.
He notes this is a great opportunity to further showcase the natural beauty of the community.
Vermette adds the Miners’ organization continues to be a solid community partner and excellent ambassador for Red Lake.
SIJHL Commissioner Darren Nicholas says based on experience the best atmosphere’s of hockey tournaments have been in smaller communities.
He says the event really becomes the talk of the town and is the focus of everyone’s attention.
Nicholas adds the locals go out of their way to ensure all involved are treated to a first-class event.
The Dudley-Hewitt Cup features the champions of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, Ontario Junior Hockey League and the Superior International Junior Hockey League.
The Miners also get an automatic invite as host team.
