A little more in your child’s backpack for the holiday season.
The province announced Thursday that they’ll be send a pack of five rapid antigen COVID-19 tests home in an effort to screen kids and prevent infected kids from re-entering schools in January.
The handout to schools will happen in the middle of December with participation being voluntary.
Any child who does not take the tests will be allowed to return to school in January.
The government also said that all elementary school-wide assemblies will be held virtually as early as January.
Lunches and breaks in elementary schools will be restricted to classroom cohorts indoors when distancing between cohorts can’t be maintained.
High schools will be allowed to shift back to regular semesters as early as February with the option for local boards to make the move sooner should they have their public health unit’s support.
