A member of the Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce is concerned about the future of some local businesses with the proposed $15 minimum wage.
Charla Robinson says business owners, especially in restaurants, will have to do things to reduce their overhead costs in order to continue operating.
She notes that includes increase prices, change operating hours, or reduce staffing levels.
Robinson stresses the province must come to the table to help small businesses cope.
She says the government could reduce provincial income tax rates for lower income workers to leave more money in their pocket.
Robinson adds they could also provide restaurants and bars with wholesale pricing on their alcohol purchases.
On Tuesday, the province unveiled plans to raise it from $14.35 an hour to $15 as of January 1.
