Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says vaccination rates continue to climb.
“Our current coverage rates to those 12 and older are 89% with at least one dose and 83.3% with two doses. I encourage anyone who has had one dose of the vaccine to get their second dose for optimal protection.”
Dr. Young Hoon says they will be launching a public awareness campaign to encourage more people to get both doses.
“Some of the key messages would be, COVID-19 can impact the health of everyone including younger adults and it can also lead to the spread of individuals who may come into contact with, that could lead to increased hospitalizations and deaths.”
She adds they are preparing to ramp up vaccination efforts to include kids aged 12 and under.
“Parents who have questions or would like to discuss the vaccine with their health care provider can book a consultation with a medical professional at Sick Kids or they can contact their health care provider. We expect to be providing the vaccine to children before Christmas.”
The Thunder Bay district recorded two new cases and the active count stands at 15.
Ontario recorded 331 new positives today and 7 COVID-related deaths.
