Thunder Bay-Superior North MP Patty Hajdu has a new portfolio in cabinet.
Hajdu becomes the Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor.
“I look forward to working with my Parliamentary and Cabinet colleagues as we begin this 44th Parliament. I am also eager to get started in my new role and continue the important work ahead alongside First Nations, Inuit, and Métis partners,” Hajdu said, in a statement released Tuesday.
Hajdu says one of her main priorities moving forward will be reconciliation.
“I do believe that the reconciliation journey is one that all Canadians are waking up to and all Canadians are interested in and invested in pursuing.”
She took on the Health portfolio just months before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hajdu says, “I am honoured to serve this country and especially honoured to serve in this way and in this new file. All of them are exciting, difficult and such fulfilling portfolios that I continue to really be honoured by the Prime Ministers confidence in me.”
She adds, “I would like to say thank you to the team at Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, Dr. Theresa Tam, Dr. Howard Njoo, and my ministerial office staff for your exceptional work and determination throughout this pandemic.”
Parliament will resume on November 22.
