The Dryden Eagles High School Football team has ended the season with a perfect record.
The ‘Blue and Gold’ travelled to Kenora Friday and downed the Beaver Brae Broncos 20-6.
Mitch Pinette accounted for two of the Eagles touchdowns, while Dominic Morriseau returned from an injury to show he’s 100% with another major.
Dryden will host the winner of Beaver Brae and Fort Frances November 5 in the Championship final.
Here is the game recap from Head Coach Geoff Zilkalns:
Dryden travelled to Kenora to face the Broncos Friday, the Eagles already locked into first before kickoff. The game remained scoreless through the first 12 minutes but, after switching sides for the second quarter, Mitchell Pinette put the visitors on top when he sprinted in from 33 yards out. The convert attempt failed and 6-0 was the score at the break.
After intermission the Eagles attack was more focused and Dom Morriseau hauled in a Peter Zilkalns pass for a 44 yard major and Pinette found pay dirt shortly after, this time from 11 yards away. Dryden entered the fourth up 20-0 on the strength of an opportunistic defense, Jett Livingston, Carter McKinstry and Jaden Rafter intercepted Bronco pass attempts with Rafter netting 2 of them.
The Broncos remained hard working and capitalized on some Eagle sloppiness and untimely penalties to reach the end zone through the air with just over 2 minutes to go to break the shutout.
The regular season concluded with DHS sporting a 4-0 record, the Fort Frances Muskies earned the right to host the Oct 29th semi-final on the merit of their 2-2 finish. The final is slated for Nov 5th in Dryden at 2:30pm.
