The NDP has requested an official inquiry into what it calls numerous failures in last month’s federal election.
The Kenora riding was plagued with voting problems, with no polling stations at all for residents of Cat Lake, Poplar Hill and Pikangikum.
Local Conservative MP Eric Melillo says, “It’s very concerning that there was that gap, that there were communities that did not have stations or definitely some unclear communication on when and where polling stations were. I immediately called after the election for a review of this. I’m happy that Elections Canada is reviewing and investigating.”
Melillo stresses a review is needed to ensure these mistakes don’t happen again.
“Of course we want to make sure every that single person has the chance to vote in the election and I’m very curious and hopeful to see the results of the investigation.”
The Grassy Narrows First Nation polling station didn’t open until 12:30 pm while voting was set to start at 8:30 am.
