Saturday’s COVID-19 update has Ontario reporting 654 new cases of the virus, 464 of those coming from people who are unvaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status.
In terms of vaccination rates 86.9 per cent of Ontarians 12 and up have at least one dose, while 82.1 per cent have a single dose. This means over 22-million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the province.
Turning attention now to the regional numbers which remain relatively low as we enter the Thanksgiving day weekend.
The Northwestern Health Unit currently has 14 active cases of the virus, and a single hospitalization.
Looking at the Thunder Bay District, there has not been a new case recorded since Oct. 4.
While this is promising, a statement form the health unit stresses to continue practicing public health guidelines this weekend:
One thing to keep in mind is that although we have very few cases here, people often travel for holidays. If you have out-of-towners joining you and they have come from a region with a higher incidence of COVID-19 cases, that is an additional risk. If you have children who are ineligible for vaccination, consider the risks they face. And if you have not been vaccinated yourself, think of ways you can lower the risk to both yourself and others.
Ontario has created a page that identifies safest ways to celebrate this Thanksgiving.
