The Canadian Trucking Alliance believes most truck drivers are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Spokesperson Jean-Marc Picard says the industry will not be mandating vaccines.
“Companies have to set their own policies on that front. I mean we can only share information on how to get it, the risks of not getting it, and things like that.
“We’ve certainly been communicating the same things that we’ve been hearing from the government. I would say the last statistics were probably the same as the general population, along with those numbers…80 per cent.”
Picard says the industry desperately needs more drivers and he expects we will likely see more problems in the global supply chain and labor shortages are just one factor.
Picard adds don’t be surprised to see shortages of fuel or even food in the weeks ahead.
