The Northwestern Health Unit says it may look at more restrictive health measures as the case count of COVID-19 goes up across the region.
Monday there were 17 new cases, five in the Kenora area and 12 in the Rainy River District.
There were no new positives on Tuesday.
Overall, the active case count in the region now stands at 16.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says it’s too early to say if they will take further action.
“That is something that we are considering. We are monitoring the situation closely. To look at case numbers, potential for spread in a more expediential way. We have not reached that point where we think it’s appropriate to apply those type of legal requirements.”
Dr. Kit Young Hoon says many of the new cases are children under the age of 12.
“I think we are seeing it more in unvaccinated individuals. Many of these individuals aren’t eligible to be vaccinated. I think one other thing to point out is that there is some association with social gatherings in general.”
Dr. Young Hoon is keeping a close eye on the situation in the Rainy River District.
“We are worried that there are cases that are not being found through case and contact management. We have noted a few situations where some people have chosen not to get tested. So, that makes it more challenging to do case and contact management.”
