Two men from Wisconsin have been fined a total $22,000 for illegal hunting on Johnson Lake, part of the English River system.
Court heard that on October 12, 2019, Steven Juhlke shot a bull moose from a motorboat while being guided by Michael Anderson.
Conservation officers approached the two and the pair made numerous false statements in an attempt to conceal the unlawful manner in which the moose was killed.
Juhlke of Rib Lake pleaded guilty and was fined $3,000 for discharging a firearm from a conveyance, $1,500 for making a false statement to a conservation officer, and $3,500 for possessing illegally killed wildlife.
Anderson of Merrill pleaded guilty and was fined $3500 for making a false statement to a conservation officer and $10,500 for making a false statement to a conservation officer.
Anderson and Juhkle have both been banned from hunting in Ontario for four years.
The province reminds hunters that regulations are in place to ensure sustainable wildlife populations for future generations to enjoy.
