For the first time since October 24, 2019, High School Football was back at Harry McMaster Field.
The hometown fans and those enjoying Homecoming walked away happy as the Dryden Eagles smothered visiting Beaver Brae 27-1 Friday afternoon.
It didn’t long for the hometown faithful to get into the game as the Blue and Gold scored on their very first offensive play.
Quarterback Peter Zilkalns faked a run and pitched it back to Dominic Morriseau who blew past the defenders for a 40 yard touchdown run.
A few minutes later the two hooked up once again as Zilkalns fired a 25 yard laser to Morriseau who hauled the ball in for the second major of the quarter.
The Eagles wouldn’t let up in the second quarter as Zilkalns connected with Fynn Livingston for a 5 yard touchdown pass.
Dominic Morriseau hit Karson Bibeau on a fake convert to score two more.
The Dryden defence took over after that as the Broncos had the ball inside the 25 of the Eagles on a couple of occasions thanks in part to penalty troubles and a no yards call, however Beaver Brae would turn the ball over.
Shalom Powell would add some insurance in the third quarter when he exploded for a 34 yard touchdown run, with Gage Delorme kicking the extra point.
The strong play continued on the other end of the ball with interceptions from Dominic Morriseau and Reed McCready.
The Eagles now improve to 2-0 on the shortened season, while Beaver Brae falls to 0-2.
Dryden will play its second and last home game of the regular season Friday, October 8 against Fort Frances.
