Hockey Canada has recognized the Dryden GM Ice Dogs for their September 25 Truth and Reconciliation Game.
They have posted a 2:33 minute video on their website along with a statement highlight the groundbreaking day towards Reconciliation.
The special event was held at the Centre in Dryden in the afternoon and the Memorial Arena at night with a game featuring the Ice Dogs and Thunder Bay North Stars.
The main feature was a 30 minute opening ceremony with guests of honour former NHLers and Stanley Cup winners Reggie and Jamie Leach as well as The Little Feather Drummers welcoming players and dignitaries on the ice.
That was followed by speeches from Eagle Lake Chief Arnold Gardner, Dryden Councillor and Working Circle Co-Chair Shayne MacKinnon, SIJHL Commissioner Darrin Nicholas and Truth and Reconciliation Game Chair Natasha Lovenuk.
The players also sported one-time only Orange Truth and Reconciliation jersey’s.
