The province is spending another $182.6 million to ensure hospitals and health care facilities have the tools they need to improve quality of care and continue responding to the pandemic.
The money is earmarked mostly for upgrades, repairs and maintenance as well as replacements of roofs, windows, security systems, fire alarms and back-up generators.
A total of $50 million will be used by hospitals for urgent projects, specifically those that support the health response to COVID-19, including upgrades to HVAC systems, and improving infection prevention and control measures.
Ontario Hospital Association President and CEO Anthony Dale says with the fourth wave of the pandemic underway and longstanding capacity pressures growing, the investment will extend the life of all facilities at a time when hospitals are doing everything possible to maintain and enhance access to vital frontline services.
Minister of Health Christine Elliott says the funding is another step in a provincial goal to end hallway health care.
