The Red Lake Miners have suffered their first loss of the Superior International Junior Hockey League season.
The Miners squandered an early 2-0 lead in a 5-4 setback to the visiting Thunder Bay North Stars Thursday night.
Ethan Pool and Lucas Piekarczyk got things going before the North Stars scored three straight.
Red Lake tied the game in the third on an Adam Ferriera marker but Thunder Bay recovered with two more goals.
Brady Harroun would score late for the Miners in a failed comeback bid.
The Miners outshot the North Stars 46-35 with Cole Wheaton suffering the loss.
The rematch is Friday at 7:30 in Cochenour.
