Public consultations are in full swing for the Northern Road Link project.
The proposed all-weather, multi-use road would link remote northern communities to the proposed Ring of Fire mining development.
It’s being led by Marten Falls and Webequie First Nations.
Project Communications Officer Stephanie Ash says public feedback is crucial for an undertaking such as this.
“It’s such an essential part of developing a project, a major infrastructure project like the Northern Road Link. We want to make sure that we’re hearing from diverse people, diverse communities, people who of course use the land for traditional practices.”
Ash stresses, “Road access is critical in any public environment. Communities, people, businesses want to have road access. It’s a privilege that most of us take for granted in our daily lives.”
Ash says no price tag has been set as of yet, and many other factors such as environmental impact need to be assessed first.
She notes they are now developing the work plan for the Environmental Assessment process.
If the project goes through, it would mean access and supply roads for remote northern communities.
