First Nations rights, balancing the budget, green energy, and mental health.
Those were just some of the issues brought up in the first all-candidates forum in the Kenora riding on Thursday.
Incumbent Conservative Eric Melillo says he didn’t feel there was a target on his back, as several of the candidates took shots at the Conservative Party.
“Focused on presenting our positive plan for the country, our recovery plan, and I believe the more Canadians that hear and see it, they be impressed by it, so I was happy to share it.”
For his part, David Bruno the Liberal candidate talked about the importance of having a Member of Parliament on the government side.
“That the whole point…that’s the job. This is why I want the job. I want to be able to go to Ottawa, get these programs…bring them here.”
Green Party candidate Remi Rheault said it’s important to balance the books, but not at the expense of our people.
“People need to realize that it’s not always just about balancing the budget, it’s about looking after people…our elders…our seniors.”
Janine Seymour of the NDP says the all-candidates forum gives people a chance to find out who she is and what she stands for.
“So made great efforts to ensure that I am known because I think that’s really important to find out what they are behind and what they are advocating for.”
Craig Martin from the People’s Party of Canada also attended the forum and made the point his party was the only one that promised to balance the book at the end of their first term of office.
“We are the only party that intends to balance the budget. We are the only party that intends to give back to communities, not corporations. We are a group of people standing up for the people of this country.”
About 60 masked and socially distant people attended the all-Candidates forum put on by the Kenora and District Chamber of Commerce.
Election Day is September 20.
