Racers from across the northwest will hit the trail Sunday for the 4th Annual ‘We Run This City’ half marathon in Dryden.
Organizer Liz Godin says the event features a 10-kilometre, 5-kilometre, and Kids Fun Run.
Godin says it’s great to be back after a virtual event last year.
“I’ve always believed that getting the community together is very vital for a healthy community. Our goal is to raise money to help support outdoor recreational events. Dryden’s really beautiful with a lot of great scenery and a lot of great recreational activities to do and things to see. So, we want to do our best to support that.”
She adds, “In one aspect it’s encouraging individuals to get out and be healthy and enjoy the outdoors and on the other side we’re helping to raise money that we can support a smaller organization to meet the exact same goal. So, it’s a win-win for everybody.”
The race starts at 8:00 am September 5 at Van Horne Landing and the route follows the river trail.
Godin stresses this is truly a community event.
“We encourage community members to come out, rain or shine, the runners are going to be out there. So dress warm, dress up if you want to, play some music, make it fun.”
She says your enthusiasm and support will motivate runners during the gruelling event.
“I know everyone has been forced to hide in their own bubbles and stay at home and this is a chance for us to spread out, COVID safe, amongst the community and cheer each other on.”
Spectators are urged to follow COVID protocols including wearing masks and two metre distancing.
