Swimming areas at Flat Rock and Sandy Beach in Dryden are now closed until further notice for blue-green algae testing.
The Northwestern Health Unit continues to follow up on reports of algae blooms in the Larson Bay and Maple Road areas of Wabigoon Lake.
Until test results are known, the health unit is asking people to be cautious and treat it as though it is blue-green algae.
Some blue-green algae produce toxins and can pose health risks to people and animals when exposed.
Blooms often make the water look blue-green or olive-green, or like green pea soup or turquoise paint.
People and pets should avoid discoloured water or water with scum on the surface. Do not drink the water and avoid swimming or using it within your household.
If contact does occur, wash with soap and water or rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove algae.
With the water in the region warming, there is increased risk of blue green algae blooms.
If you spot a bloom, you can report it to the Spills Action Centre at 1-800-268-6060.
