Zone 8 Director William Latham says the money comes from savings of not being able to travel to Toronto for meetings due to COVID-19.
Latham says it was an easy decision to make the donation.
“Everything else, through COVID, people and organizations were struggling for money to do the good work that they do in the communities, and we thought we have the money so we can put it out there.”
A total of $63,000 is being spent to support various initiatives across Ontario.
MROO was created as a not-for-profit corporation in 1977 and speaks on behalf of all OMERS retirees providing services and support to more than 30,000 members.
It’s the largest OMERS retiree organization and the only one with membership open to retirees from all walks of local government life.
