Members of the Dryden Police Association are not surprised with a Council decision to switch to Provincial Police.
However, President Janet Kaus says the 6-1 vote Monday was extremely disappointing.
“For the past three years not knowing what the future holds has been very stressful on our members. Even though the decision has now been made, I mean the stress will continue the next few months, as our members work through a disbandment process.”
Kaus says, “Unfortunately, there will be members that will not get jobs and for those that will, it will come with big changes. In the weeks ahead our members will be required to complete an application process to the OPP. There’s also a requirement for our Association to enter into labour negotiations to secure a fair severance package and benefits for our members.”
She stresses, “Our Association wants to ensure the public that our members remain committed to serving and protecting this community. Many of our members obviously were born and raised in this community or have been long time residents of this community and we proudly chose to work for the Dryden Police Service.”
Kaus adds, “Our hope from the Dryden Police Association moving forward is that the same level of service that the citizens of Dryden have enjoyed for over a hundred years now will continue. We just want to really reassure the public that we are still committed.”
