Some relief for overwhelmed firefighters across the region.
There were only six new forest fires across the northwest region Thursday.
Three were in the Dryden district, Nipigon recorded two and the Sioux Lookout area one.
There are now 153 active fires, 56 are considered not under control.
Things are improving with fires near Poplar Hill First Nation and Deer Lake First Nation.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says fire behaviour has been limited by recent rainfall, lower temperatures, lower wind speed and high humidity.
An ignition plan has been approved and officials are waiting for the right conditions to conduct operations to bring the fires to natural boundaries.
The Ministry does caution we could see a return to increased fire activity in the coming days.
Meantime, the MNRF is asking boaters to be aware of water bombers fighting forest fires.
Information Officer Jonathan Scott says boaters should move close to the shore if they notice an incoming bomber.
The pilot will not come down to scoop water if there is a safety hazard.
