‘We Run This City’ Dryden is gearing up for their 5th annual half marathon.
The run is set for September 5th and Committee member Carrie Doherty spoke with the Rotary Club of Dryden virtually on Wednesday about their need for volunteers.
“We have about seven volunteers, I would like to see at least 25 more so then we would have all our basis covered for traffic, direction for both runners and vehicles, registration and to have water stations as well. So the more the better, we usually see runners register more in the summer and volunteers come forward.”
After going virtual due to COVID-19 last year Doherty says with the run back to in person again they hope to complete the 2020 route they had planned.
“It’s a fun event and the idea is just to get people active and show off our city. We even have people travel from elsewhere to come join us, we see people from Kenora, Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout-we get quite a few people from Sioux Lookout.”
The event raises funds aim to improve local recreational activities, with last year’s going towards the Patricia Regional Senior Services.
In addition to the half marathon, there’s also a 10 kilometre event, five kilometre event and a ‘Kids Fun Run’.
Registrations are still being accepted and for more information check out We Run This City on Facebook or email werunthiscitydryden@gmail.com.
