The busiest day of the season for Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry fire crews.
There were 70 new starts recorded Tuesday.
The Sioux Lookout region led the way with 24, the hard hit Red Lake region recorded 20, Dryden saw 10 new fires, Kenora and Fort Frances each saw 6, Nipigon reported three, while the Thunder Bay area saw one new fire.
There are now 165 active fires burning and 84 are considered not under control.
Smoke drift is expected in most communities today and an Air Quality Alert has once again been issued for the entire region.
Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath.
Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.
