The Municipality of Red Lake is cautiously optimistic that today and tonight’s weather will provide some relief to persistent forest fire challenges.
Tuesday in the Red Lake District alone, there were 26 new starts.
In their update this afternoon, Municipal Officials say none of the new starts are within the Municipality and all new starts from Tuesday and Monday don’t pose a risk to area communities at this time.
Red Lake Fire 77 to the West has shown no growth along the easterly portion of the fire.
Red Lake Fire 16 to the North has increased in size, however, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry ignition teams are creating break zones that will help slow down the fires spread.
Kenora fire 51 Southwest of Red Lake is showing little growth towards the Northeast, as fire crews are working diligently around Sydney Lake and are creating break zones to tie in natural boundaries (lakes and rivers).
The Municipality stresses to be mindful as conditions are still very dry and residents are asked to be prepared if an evacuation becomes necessary.
If daily conditions change and or worsen, the Municipality and CKDR will provide further information.
