With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dieter Becker who passed away at the Dryden Regional Health Centre on July 18, 2021, with his family by his side. Dieter was born in Duisburg, Germany on March 3, 1936, the second oldest of 8 children.
Dieter will be lovingly remembered by his wife Margret, two sons David (Kristina), Michael (Deanne), grandchildren Sarah, Eric, and Andrew. Dieter will also be missed by his brother Horst (Rita), sisters Ingrid (Gerhard), Christel, Margot, and Ursel, and nephews Frank, Robert, and Brian. He is predeceased by parents Peter and Erna Becker, bother Andreas, and sister Margarete.
There’re fond memories of family times together which included spending weeks out at the cabin to travelling all over the world.
Dieter’s grandchildren were always welcome at his home. Dieter shared stories of his life with them and listened to stories that they had to share. He gave advice when asked or just an open ear when he knew that was all that was need.
Dieter emigrated to Canada from Germany in 1958 and married his wife Margret Pfeiffer on May 30, 1959. They later moved to Dryden in 1959 where Dieter began his career as an accountant at the Dryden Pulp & Paper Mill, with whom he remained for 35 years until his retirement. Dieter enjoyed going in the summer to his happy place which was camp because he had a passion for the outdoors; where he enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting with family and friends. For 26 years, he wintered in Arizona where he made numerous friends and loved to go on daily walks along the canal. Dieter always bragged that his birthday was the biggest park event of the year.
We would like thank Dr. Goulet, Dr. Bester, Dr. Cook, Dr. Wilson, Melissa and all the wonderful, caring nurses at Dryden Regional Health Centre for all the loving care and support to Dieter and family.
A Graveside Memorial Service to celebrate Dieter’s life will be held Monday July 26th, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Dryden Cemetery.
