The Superior International Junior Hockey League has created a new senior management position.
Trevor Iserhoff has been named the first ever Director of Diversity and Inclusion for the league.
The Canada-wide initiative is aimed at eradicating any form of racism and create a reach to support minority participation in hockey.
The 40-year-old Iserhoff is a member of Moose Cree First Nation and lives in Kenora.
He is currently serving as a scout with the Kam River Fighting Walleye specializing in the evaluation and recruitment of Indigenous players for the team, a role he will continue.
Iserhoff says he’s looking forward to helping the league and their respective teams in an advisory role in the diversity and inclusion strategy.
SIJHL Commissioner Darrin Nicholas says they intend to be a leader in this movement, noting the end-goal is educating their players, team staff and officials as well as molding future ambassadors.
The league will begin working on their strategy and policies immediately and expect to have formal announcements in the lead-up to the 2021-2022 season.
