A community-led effort is underway in Hudson to build a new Dog Park.
Lead organizer Michael Scott says they are asking for Sioux Lookout Council permission to renovate the back half of the skating rink that has been blocked off from the main rink in Hudson.
Scott says their fundraising team will handle construction and pay for renovations, maintenance, repairs and maintain lawn care.
He says they also plan to install a rainwater collection station for pet drinking and plant watering.
Scott notes, “We’re going to basically start off small with a general park, go in with your dogs, run them around. Then in the future as we get more popularity we’re going to add in more obstacles and maybe more fitness related stuff for the dogs to take part in.”
Scott says their only asks of the municipality are:
-The location
-Garbage, Recycling, Receptacle and Service
-Approval to have Dog Park
-A copy of the town dog bylaws to be posted at park
Scott notes they will also post their own rules at the Dog Park.
The project still needs approval from Sioux Lookout Council but all members appear to be supportive of the idea and location.
