Norman Saunders
October 26, 1954 – July 8, 2021
With heavy hearts we share the passing of our little brother Norm, from a sudden heart attack at the family camp on Eagle Lake. He left us just exactly how he would have wanted to leave, working on a project with his nephews and his sister supervising.
Norm was born in Dryden, Ontario, the youngest of five children.
He loved to fish in his favourite spots on Eagle Lake. He loved to garden and was usually very successful at it.
Being a geologist, he started his career at South Bay Mines then in Snow Lake, Manitoba, Renabie, Ontario and finally retiring from Williams Mine in Marathon, Ontario. Everywhere he worked or travelled he would bring home a few rocks to his collection to add to his rock garden at camp. Norm was happy just being left alone spending many hours feeding his favourite squirrel of the season, the whiskey jacks, blue jays, a black bird named Barack and one year even a ground hog.
Norm is survived by his brothers; Bill Saunders of Dryden and Dave (April) Saunders of Waldhof, sister Linda (Bernie) Levert of Dryden, aunt Thelma Smith, brother-in-law Mel (Louise) Fisher, nieces; Karri (Stan) Pelikys, and Coral Fisher, nephews; Kevin (Terri) Levert, Kris (Shannon) Levert, Cam (Shantelle) Fisher, Tim (Donna) Fisher, Sheldon Saunders and Kyle (Trisha) Saunders, many cousins and special friends; Phil, Sandra, Dale and Wally.
He will be sadly missed. We will never let you be forgotten.
Predeceased by his mom and dad, sister Louise, sister-in-law Jean, and nephews Ernie and Brian.
Big thanks to the Vermilion Bay First Responders, Dryden O.P.P., Dryden Ambulance, and Kayla at Dryden Community Funeral Home, for all you did for Norm, Kris and Sheldon (his nephews) who tried so hard to keep him here for all of us. You were great even when there was no hope.
Cremation has taken place and scattering of ashes at Eagle Lake Camp will take place at a later date.
