The MP for Kenora is paying no attention to talk of a possible federal election call this summer.
Eric Melillo says he is sticking to what really matters.
“It’s business as usual. We’ve got a job to do as MP’s and it’s important we get out and meet people in our riding and that’s going to be my focus this Summer. Especially after a year-and-a-half or so of COVID.”
Melillo says he’s already been travelling quite a bit as things open up more.
The Conservative says he has no control whether or not we will head to the polls sooner rather than later.
Here is the weekly column from Kenora MP Eric Melillo:
Dear Constituents,
It was recently revealed that the Trudeau government’s firearm buyback program could cost up to $756 million. This is outrageous.
The Liberals can’t seem to understand that law-abiding Canadians who use firearms for hunting and sport shooting are not a threat.
It’s no mystery what needs to be done to address crime. We need to provide more resources to police to target gangs, and more support to the CBSA to tackle cross-border smuggling of weapons. We need to invest in crime prevention. And we need to impose tougher sentences on violent criminals.
This is the opposite of the Liberal approach.
Earlier this year, the Liberals introduced a bill allowing lighter sentences for people convicted of weapons trafficking, using a firearm in commission of an offence, possession of a loaded handgun, illegally firing a weapon with intent, robbery with a firearm, extortion with a firearm, and more.
Yet they want to treat responsible hunters and sport shooters like criminals. And they’re willing to spend over $750 million of taxpayers’ money to do it.
The Liberal government’s priorities are completely backwards.
I believe this government is simply incapable of understanding our way of life in northern Ontario. I know many law-abiding gun owners in the Kenora riding are feeling unfairly demonized.
I will always stand up for our northern lifestyle, and for the rights of law-abiding Canadians to keep and use firearms.
