The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is receiving provincial funding to continue its Hub Transit program.
Funding for the initiative was set to expire in 2023, but the government has extended it for another two years.
Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney says Sioux Lookout will receive $476,169.99.
Mulroney says it’s part of a $14 million investment for transportation services in 38 Ontario communities.
Nine communities in Northern Ontario will receive additional funding of $1.7 million.
Atikokan is getting $70,390.42 to expand transportation services.
Mulroney says supporting local public transit is a priority for the government.
Mulroney notes people deserve reliable access to a network that gets them where they need to go, when they need to get there.
The money comes from the ‘Community Transportation Grant’ program and is geared towards “underserved” regions.
Mulroney says, “Every year municipalities remind me how important this program is in keeping their communities connected.”
