When it comes to fully vaccinated Canadians returning to the country, they will no longer have to quarantine if they are travelling after July 5.
“It means that people will be able to avoid the 14-day quarantine when they arrive,” says federal Health Patty Hajdu. “They will be able to transit to their own community without any requirements that they stay in a hotel.”
The adjustment only applies to travellers who are travelling after July 5, meaning if you made your way to Canada beforehand, you still have to follow the two-week quarantine upon arrival.
To abide by the new rule, you’ll need to clear 14 days since being fully vaccinated and update your vaccination details and the results of a negative COVID-19 test conducted no more than three days before arrival through the ArriveCan app
Despite the relaxing of some travel requirements, Hajdu urges you to exercise caution when thinking about travel outside of Canada.
“We’ve seen that countries do have to change direction if the virus gets out of control, so there are still travel advisories in place for outgoing travel,” added Hajdu.
The change does not apply to foreign nationals, including US citizens.
