It’s shaping up to be a record-breaking weekend across Northwestern Ontario.
A Heat Warning is in effect and temperatures will be in the mid-to-late 30’s the next three days.
Bill Laidlaw of Signal Weather Services took time Friday to dust off the record book.
The record high for Friday is 31.8 set in 2012 and 34 degrees on Saturday recorded in 2020.
The high for Sunday is 32.4 degrees reached in 1988.
Laidlaw predicts those will fall or be tied.
The CKDR Meteorologist tells us when we can expect some relief.
“Some colder air is going to try to move in on Sunday night. With that we’ll get some thunderstorms. There’s not a lot of moisture available to us in this atmosphere, so they’ll be a lot of dry lightning and I expect quite a bit of lot of wind out of that rather than heavy rainfalls.”
This warm front comes from the dome of intense heat that has been in place over Western Canada where temperatures almost reached 50 degrees in some parts.
The warm front shattered numerous records, primarily in B.C., and help sparked massive wildfires that have destroyed 90% of the Village of Lytton.
It’s also responsible for some 500 heat-related deaths.
