Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for all of Northwestern Ontario.
The dome of intense heat that has been in place over Western Canada will move into our area starting on Friday and continue into Sunday.
Daytime highs will climb from the high-twenties today to the mid-thirties Friday.
Overnight lows will be into the upper teens, providing little relief from the heat.
Officials say extreme heat affects everyone but the risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Here are some recommendations to stay safe and avoid such things as heat stroke and heat exhaustion.
-Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.
-Check on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water
-Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day.
-Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
-Ask a health professional how medications or health conditions can affect your risk in the heat.
