The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has implemented a Restricted Fire Zone across most of the region.
It’s due to the high to extreme forest fire hazard in the Kenora, Fort Frances and Dryden Districts, and southern portions of Sioux Lookout and Red Lake Districts.
The Restricted Fire Zone will be in effect until further notice.
Outdoor fires are banned as of 12:01am Wednesday June 30.
During the RFZ there is to be no open fires, no campfires and no fireworks.
Portable gas stoves may still be used but must be handled with extreme care.
There are 41 active fires in the region and 11 are classed as not under control.
The RFZ has forced the cancellation of Canada Day fireworks in Ear Falls.
