After a two-year hiatus, Ed Sheeran is back in the spotlight with a brand new song ‘Bad Habits’. Sheeran portrays a glam vampire alter-ego of himself as he embarks on a wild night out with other goblins and ghouls. “Feels great to be back with my new single,” Sheeran wrote in a statement. “I wanted the video for ‘Bad Habits’ to play on the nature of habits in a fantastical way so I decided on vampires. It was mega fun getting into character except for the heights (that wasn’t so fun). Enjoy x.”
‘Bad Habits’ will be featured on his upcoming fifth studio album, rumoured to be called ‘Minus’.
It’s a far cry from his usual material, and for good reason. In an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music, Sheeran explains the situation surrounding his last release ‘Afterglow’, and why it sounded so familiar. “For years (the fans) were like ‘Yeah we want stuff to sound like the first album again, give us ‘Plus’! So I put out ‘Afterglow’ at Christmas just as a kind of…’here you go’ and the reaction was ‘eh’.”
Not that it was a bad song – it just didn’t feel new! This time around, you can hear heavy influence from the likes of the Weeknd, Nick Jonas, and Dua Lipa.
No release date has been announced at this time.
