Environment Canada is calling Wednesday nights storm that caused massive damage in Sioux Lookout a “downburst.”
Winds were gauged around 111-kilometres an hour.
Officials say they are still investigating and ask anyone to send pictures, videos and testimonials.
Sioux Lookout Mayor Doug Lawrance has declared a State of Emergency.
Hydro crews have been working non-stop trying to get everyone back on the grid and that process is near completion.
The Municipality confirms there’s major damage to the Sunset Inn and Suites roof and to multiple municipal facilities.
Ninety patients of the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority are now displaced from the hotel and the Municipality has offered help to find them temporary accommodations.
Work continues to clean up area roads and there’s been no wash outs or issues with water or sewer services reported.
