A Dryden man has been fined $1,400 for abandoning four northern pike while ice fishing.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says in February 2020 conservation officers saw Stanley Hazlewood ice fishing for walleye north of Dryden.
During his time fishing, four northern pike were caught and left on the ice.
After a period of time, officers observed all four fish being put down the fishing holes and left abandoned.
Hazlewood was contacted shortly after and charged.
The case was heard in Dryden Court May 2021 and Hazlewood also received a two-year probation order under which he is not allowed to fish in the province of Ontario or possess fishing equipment.
The Ontario government reminds anglers that abandoning fish and allowing them to spoil is illegal.
