The City of Dryden has a new Fire Chief.
Chris Wood has been appointed to the top position.
He replaces Kent Readman, who is the new Chief of the Kenora Fire Department.
Wood has served as a firefighter since 2015 and Captain since 2019.
Municipal officials say his selection follows a robust recruitment competition.
Chief Administrative Officer Roger Nesbitt says, “I am excited that Chris has accepted the Fire Chief position for the City of Dryden. Chris’ experience as one of Dryden’s volunteer fire fighters and faire service captains along with his extensive leadership and team building skills will help to ensure his success and provide our community with tremendous value.”
Wood says, “I am extremely thankful and privileged to have been granted the ability to be part of the Dryden Fire Service over the last seven years. During that time, I have been exposed to the continuous growth and improvements made within the Service and I am thankful and honoured to have grown and developed personally with my colleagues.”
He adds, “I look forward to working with our outstanding and devote team in maintaining the stability of our department and providing new leadership to a successful organization.”
City officials stress the Dryden Fire Service continues to build momentum first introduced by former Chiefs Rob Grimwood and Kent Readman and that has now widely been embraced by staff and volunteers.
They add Chris Wood brings a “people first” leadership style to the table.
Wood officially assumes command on July 12.
