Since moving here in 2017, I learned very quickly that people aren’t so keen on sharing their ‘secret spots’. Which is completely understandable, as not everyone has good intentions! In Sunset Country, we really are lucky to live in a place surrounded by the boreal forest and freshwater lakes!
There’s a lot to be explored and half the battle is knowing where all the best hiking spots are!
A few days ago I checked out a local spot in Vermilion Bay, located right behind Fort Vermilion off of Highway 17! It features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching.
Be prepared though! While this trail has a great payoff, it’s extremely rocky and will require careful footing.
The loop is roughly two kilometres long, and the view halfway through is just amazing! A perfect place to go to with your significant other to enjoy some alone time…
Overall I really enjoyed this trail, and hope to go again sometime soon. If you know of any hiking trails in Sunset Country – let me know!
