A handful of businesses in Dryden and Kenora have partnered with a local beekeeper to protect the bee population and make some money at the same time.
Reagan Breeze has launched his ‘Bee Rooftop’ campaign.
He admits it is a very different and unique program.
“But 100% of the proceeds of the honey that is created from the ‘Bees on the Rooftop’ will go back to that restaurant to help through COVID times. Hopefully it will bring in some more extra cliental to the businesses themselves.”
Breeze outlines who is participating this year:
Meantime, an innovative program is coming to the Kenora District Jail.
Breeze is set to launch a bee keeping awareness and training program at the facility.
Breeze says he will teach inmates a number of things.
“Fact of mother nature or the creator and just show them the bio-diversity, the healthy eco-system that the bees bring. I’m very excited and they have their own bee suits at the Kenora Jail. Each inmate will have their own bee suit and I will be able to do the teachings.”
Breeze says, “Myself as being a past sergeant at the Kenora District Jail, I will work hand-on-hand with the bees and the inmates and I’ll give them some transferable skill sets, so that when they get reintegrated back into society, they will be getting some pretty beautiful teachings.”
He believes this is the first-of-its-kind program in all of Canada.
