Doug Ford says opening our schools presents some health concerns.
He says modeling shows there could be two to four thousand more cases a day if schools open up.
There’s also the risk of variants entering the classroom and Ford says his goal is to keep all students and school staff safe.
In an open letter, Ford admits there a wide range of advice and commentary about reopening Ontario schools.
Ford is seeking responses to seven questions by 5 pm Eastern time tomorrow.
Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams says he would like to see students head back to class before other services and businesses are allowed to open.
However, Dr. Williams admits there has to be confidence among staff, parents, school boards and medical officers of health to reopen.
“Most of the medical officials of health in the province of Ontario, including those in the GTA, feel that they are pretty well ready to move on that as soon as possible because they understand the need for the students to be back in for many reasons and the value of in-class attendance.”
A decision on the resumption of in-class learning could be made in the coming days.
