Jean Agnes Pearl Ormiston (nee Skey)
January 22, 1936-May 15, 2021
Jean Ormiston passed away suddenly at her home in the early morning hours of Saturday May 15th, 2021.
Predeceased by her parents Thomas and Evelyn Skey and husband Jim Ormiston.
Jean is survived by her son William (Carol) Ormiston, daughter Jillian (Chris) Mohr both of Parksville, B.C. Grandchildren Adam (Debbie) and great grandchildren Sydney and Olin Ormiston of Port Hardy, B.C., Claire Ormiston of Toronto, Ontario, Kayla and Braeden Mohr of Parksville, B.C. Sister-in-law Sheenagh Campbell of Winnipeg, Manitoba and family. Sisters Gillian Milton and Pauline Skey, brothers Derek and Trevor Skey and families all of England.
Jean came to Winnipeg, Manitoba from England in 1958 as a Registered Nurse/Midwife. There she met her husband James Ormiston. They settled in Dryden, Ontario where they raised their children William and Jillian. Jean worked at the Dryden District Hospital. Jean and Jim spent 25 happy years in Dryden making lots of great friends whom they enjoyed spending time with.
In 1985 at Jean’s request to move to a warmer climate they sold everything and packed up a moving van and headed to British Columbia. Deciding to settle in Parksville on Vancouver Island where they changed careers and bought Parksville Home Hardware. The business is still operated within the family today.
Jean and Jim enjoyed many trips in their motorhome and trips to places around the world. After Jim passed Jean continued with her travels. Jean enjoyed gardening and golfed until a year ago. Jean made good friends in Parksville at Surfside and through golf and at Knox United Church.
No service by request. A private family graveside service will be held. Donations can be made to the BCSPCA in Jean’s memory.
