Lac Seul First Nation becomes the fourth deployment of Team Rubicon in northwestern Ontario this year.
The community asked for their assistance following an outbreak of COVID-19 this month.
Earlier this year they helped out with the outbreak crisis on the Wabaseemoong First Nation and were in Neskataga for the water emergency and Muskrat Dam after two of their diesel generators went down.
Team leader Eric Goodwin says they are volunteers ready to help out wherever they are needed.
“Because of the majority of us being former military, we have more or less been trained and conditioned to work in austere environments,” explains Goodwin.
“We are trained in conditions to respond quite rapidly to dynamic situations and are able to adjust very quickly.”
Goodwin adds they draw their volunteers from a variety of fields.
“So, they will leave their regular employments to donate their time. As far as the boots on the ground volunteers we have both retired veterans also retired firefighters…police.”
Team Rubicon is providing incident management and logical support for the community and is working alongside the Canadian Rangers.
