An important deal has been struck to give Treaty #3 First Nations more control of education.
Canada, Ontario and Grand Council Treaty #3 have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
It intends to create a forum for the three parties to work together to help Indigenous students in northwestern Ontario reach their full learning potential and achieve educational success.
The federal government is providing $1.16 million, and the province $300,000, toward the implementation of the MOU, and will work with Treaty #3 to establish an action plan that will guide the work and progress of the agreement.

Minister of Indigenous Services Mark Miller says this is an important step toward reconciliation and demonstrates Canada’s commitment to a renewed, nation-to-nation relationship with First Nations.
Ontario’s Minister of Education Stephen Lecce says ,”Every student deserves the opportunity to achieve their full potential. This builds on our government’s efforts to present students across Ontario with new, modern learning opportunities that set them up for success now and in the years to come.”
