Richard (Dick) Mitani February 27, 1943 – May 8, 2021
Born in St Agathe, Manitoba where his family had been moved during World War II from Vancouver B.C. In 1945 they moved to Dryden ON and called it home. Dick attended George Brown College in Toronto to acquire his Electrical Certificate. He made Thunder Bay his home working at C.A. Johnson Electric for over 30 years then later starting his own Electrical Company as a Master Electrician with Dan L. Dick loved all sports (and played them all). He was an incredible & loyal fan to golf, hockey, curling and tennis. He excelled in skiing winning many downhill competitions and was very proud of winning a race in Aspen, Colorado. Later he found a new passion for In-Line Skating entering numerous Duluth Marathons and winning a couple in his age group. Practicing with his friend Richard C. were some of his favourite times. Working out at the Canada Games Complex was a passion and daily routine where he made many friends including Dennis & Brad. He looked forward to the frequent visits from his brother-in-law Gerard. When Dick met and married Donna they began to travel year after year to several destinations: Australia, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Turks & Caicos Islands, seeing Canada from Coast to Coast and for the past 10 years wintering in Indian Rocks, Florida. He was predeceased by his first wife Patricia LaBelle, his father Hiroshi (Rush) Mitani, mother Mitsi Mitani, and brother Doug Mitani. Dick is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 28 years, Donna, who for the last 3 years cared and supported him during his fight with Cancer. Daughter Karen Mitani (Brooklyn NY), son Michael Mitani (Ottawa) and granddaughter Bronwyn Reed (NY). Stepchildren Jennifer (Ryan) Hughes, Christopher Buckno (Calgary). Grandchildren Hope (Andrew) Vis, Morgan Hughes and great-granddaughter Nora Vis. Siblings Lawrence Mitani (Waterloo), Don (Lyn) Mitani (Dryden), Donna Mitani (Jerome Peckham) (Peterborough) and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held at a later date.
