Small businesses in the tourism and travel industries can now apply for a one-time COVID recovery grant.
Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries Lisa MacLeod says the province is allocating $100-million.
MacLeod says the funding is available to those in the sector that did not receive the Ontario Small Business Support Grant.
That includes travel agents, hotels/motels, resorts, bed and breakfasts and others.
To qualify, businesses must have fewer than 100 employees and demonstrate they have experience a minimum 20% revenue decline between 2019 and 2020.
The payments to those eligible will be $10,000 to $20,000 per business.
The money can be used for anything including hiring additional staff, paying rent or marketing.
MacLeod believes the $100 million will support some 7,700 businesses.
She adds, “I know that many questions and concerns are still arising over what our summer looks like and we continue to follow public health measures. I encourage all Ontarians to continue to follow public health advice to stay safe so that we can get a summer in, so that we can continue to support our travel and tourism sector.”
