A new survey shows that the COVID-19 pandemic has been particularly hard on teachers.
So far about 2,000 school board employees have taken part in the University of Toronto and Mount Sinai study.
Dr. Brenda Coleman says slowly teachers are starting to be immunized, but there is some bad news as well.
“As of two weeks ago, about 29% of them had been vaccinated at least once,” states Dr. Coleman.
“One of the sad things that we learned is about 40% of them have moderate to severe levels of distress.”
Dr. Coleman says online learning is only part of the problem.
“They are tired…they are nervous…everything feels like it’s an effort and this is about double what we would expect. And we’re blaming that on all the chaos created by the pandemic.”
She adds they are looking for at least 5,000 more Ontario teachers and educators for their survey.
